Dr. Will Egner,
Managing Partner

  • LinkedIn

Will serves as the Co-Founder and Managing Partner at W-Force, a Telcom and Information Technology Firm. Will is a business and technology strategist with a broad range of experience spanning communication, information technologies and defense industries. Will holds a Ph.D. in Wireless communications systems and has been granted over 50 US Patents. In additional to wireless innovations, Will played a pivotal role in the design of the Javelin Missile Automated Target Tracking (ATT) System—one of the most successful missile programs in U.S. Army history.

Before founding W-Force, Will served as the global wireless strategist and technology leader for Axon’s connected device offerings. Axon Enterprise deploys body-worn cameras, fleet products, and drones aimed at revolutionizing the public safety industry.  Axon utilizes always-connected AI cloud services that capture and process video evidence and telemetry. He supported all aspects of Axon’s Wireless services. Examples include requirements definition, selecting and contracting technology partners, and growing a portfolio of global provider partners to address Axon’s mission critical services. These efforts contributed to the expansion of Axon embedded WWAN Services with over 1 million connected devices deployed globally. These efforts propelled the business forward with very high gross margins.

Prior to Axon Enterprise, Will worked as a Wireless Technology Strategist for Dell Technologies. He led the 5G Connectivity strategy for Dell’s Client Solution Division. He was responsible for defining Dell’s wireless playbook strategy from silicon technology selection to key software partners. He identified disruptive mobile computing technologies, defined Go-to-Market (GTM) strategies, and incubated next-generation mobile technologies. He also collaborated with silicon vendors and mobile carriers to lead the use of unlicensed and shared spectrum for 4.5G/5G WWAN services.  Serving as a Board Member of the Wi-Fi Alliance (WFA), Will advised on technology selection and program enhancements. These efforts supported the proliferation of Wi-Fi devices and the device co-existence with other unlicensed radio technologies.

Prior to Dell, Will co-founded Cerion Inc., a telecommunications consulting and product company focused on optimizing wireless network deployments. He provided technology leadership for the development and global expansion of the company's product portfolio. By leveraging deep wireless system knowledge and applying advanced optimization techniques, Cerion’s solutions streamlined planning and engineering processes for our customers. Cerion delivered over $200M in savings to our client utilizing Cerion Engineering Products. This software streamlined the forecasting, optimization and implementation of wireless equipment.

Richard is the Co-Founder and Product Managing Director at W-Force. Richard has a long history of product creation, development, testing and full lifecycle product management. Over the last 25+ years he has created products for multiple aspects of the wireless network including Open RAN systems, IP and Optical transport/backhaul, and unique testing solutions for the Packet core. He specializes in driving creative and cost-efficient product solutions for challenging wireless engineering problems. Richard has a B.S.E.E. from Cornell University and a M.S.E.E from the University of Maryland and holds multiple patents.

Prior to founding W-force, Richard was most recently the Director of Product Management for Optical and Mobile transport at DZS.  He was responsible for managing two environmentally hardened transport product families for wireless and optical access. Products included innovative, cost-effective IP/Ethernet switches for high bandwidth edge switching and synchronization targeting new O-RAN 5G cell site deployments, and a compact 100G/400G coherent optical transport solution for both mobile and broadband access applications.

Richard served as the Director of 5G RAN Products at JMA Wireless. Products included mmWave and midband/CBRS 5G O-RAN compliant base stations/gnBs. These products targeted enterprise markets including venues like stadiums, airports and business campuses. These highly competitive markets require innovative lower cost solutions to drive product adoption.

Richard served as the Director of Product Management for 4G/5G Packet Core Testing at Spirent Communications. Over time, our unique packet core testing products were deployed into the labs of almost all major wireless service providers worldwide. As the 4G packet core transitioned from hardware into a containerized workload, we recognized the need for a new type of live network automated testing solution. By revectoring our product toward this new opportunity, our innovative solution has been deployed in the live virtual packet core network of every major US wireless carrier.

Will and Richard also worked together at Cerion, a Telcom consulting and product company focused on optimizing Wireless Network deployments.
